Chic, Simple Swimwear That Never Goes Out of Style

Timeless swimwear is taking center stage.

In keeping with the rest of the fashion industry, swimwear trends come and go. Every summer, it seems like a battle to keep up with what’s new, whether it’s crocheted suits or a fun print that’s emerging. This summer, I’m done fighting to keep up, and I’m finding suits that are here to stay – in both longevity and style.

The problem I’ve always had as a 20-year-old shopping for a swimsuit is finding the middle ground. I’m looking for a piece that’s elegant, but not basic, and silhouettes that I would feel comfortable in, but aren’t too boring.

The piece to this puzzle is a suit that IS simple, so we can have fun with the not-so-minimalist cover-up pieces. For example, if we have a solid-colored bathing suit, there is so much room to find a maximalist cover-up or huge, colorful sunglasses.

That’s not to say swimsuits aren’t a space to experiment. Swimsuits, as a piece, go through a lot; between saltwater, sand, sun, and chlorine, I love investing in styles I know I’ll keep reaching for year after year.

Honestly, the older I get, the less interested I am in chasing microtrends that only survive one summer anyway. A great swimsuit should feel timeless, flattering, and effortless enough that you want to pack it for every trip — while letting the styling around it do the talking. Because sometimes the chicest thing you can wear to the beach is something that still looks good long after the trend cycle moves on.
