Charli XCX Is In Her Movie Era
From brat bangers to horror screams.
Following the success of Brat, Charli XCX teased it might be a “HAIM Summer.” Turns out, that was only the beginning.
Plot Twist: Charli Goes Hollywood
In early 2025, news dropped that Charli and indie powerhouse A24 are teaming up for a film based on one of her original ideas. The project will be produced through her own Studio365, making this more than a cameo moment—it’s a full-on creative takeover. And just when fans thought she might slow down, Variety revealed another surprise: Charli is set to star in a horror movie directed by Japanese legend Takashi Miike.
Horror? Yep, She's That Girl
Miike, best known for his no-holds-barred approach to violence (think Audition or Ichi the Killer), is notoriously intense. While details are scarce, one thing’s clear: Charli isn’t just producing—she’s acting. Expect blood, guts, and a pop star scream queen moment.
This Summer’s Comedy Fix: OVERCOMPENSATING
Before horror hits, Charli is bringing the chaos with OVERCOMPENSATING, a Y2K-inspired comedy premiering on Amazon Prime this summer. Playing a parody of herself, Charli pokes fun at her past pop hits—including a perfectly chaotic meltdown over “Boom Clap.”
“You think I want to play f-cking ‘Boom Clap’ in a f-cking college? Are you joking!?” she shouts in the trailer. Classic.
Gabbriette Joins the Scary Girl Club
Charli isn’t the only one diving into horror. Musician-model Gabbriette just landed her first horror role in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. Confirmed via Instagram, she’ll star alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Madelyn Cline, making it a blend of OG icons and new-gen scream queens.
