Chanel Presents Animal-Themed SS23 Show
Inspired by Gabrielle Chanel's Apartment.
Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2023 show wasn’t just about the clothing. The set was equally mesmerizing. Creative director Virginie Viard partnered with French artist Xavier Veilhan to create a space inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s 31 rue Cambon apartment. It featured eleven wooden sculptures, as well as various objects and drawings representing different animals ranging from birds to elephants. The sculptures opened up to reveal the models, creating a true sense of interaction between people and set.
Many pieces of clothing featured animals as well, such as a jacket with crystal corgi embellishments and a swallow-embroidered veil worn by Chanel bride Anna Ewers, paired with gold boots in an unforgettable final look. Another inspiration was parade uniforms, shown in the black and white palette and tweed ensembles paired with top hats, white gloves, and bow ties.
