Celebrating Sludge Rock: Supreme x Melvins

Paying homage to the pioneers of the Seattle sound.

POSTED BY MEGAN PISTON

As a continuation of Supreme’s tendency to pay homage to musicians through their garments, they are teaming up with American rock band the Melvins for another Spring 2024 installment. Releasing several pieces with nods to iconic album art from the Melvins spanning discography, this is a collaboration that ‘90s rock fans won’t want to miss.

The Melvins, banded in 1983 by Buzz Osbourne, Matt Lukin, and Mike Dillard, are the band that put the spotlight on Seattle in the late 1980s. Inspiring the likes of Nirvana, Mudhoney, and the rest of the Seattle grunge scene, the Melvins have made irreplaceable contributions to rock music, introducing the world to sludgy, slow riffs. With a massive cult following, the Melvins have become known for their experimental take on music over the past four decades.

Featuring the Melvins recognizable iconography, the streetwear collection includes BDU jackets, hoodies, polos, t-shirts, caps, and a pillow. The capsule line utilizes bright colors, seasonal prints and patterns, and high contrast designs reminiscent of the band’s unconventional style.

The BDU jacket, a standout piece in the collaboration, comes in camouflage, black, and light blue and incorporates the cover art from the 1994 album Stoner Witch on the backside. Meanwhile, the hoodies are available in black and white, orange and black, and white and green, with two different versions: one features iconography from the 1987 album Gluey Porch Treatments while the other is a graphic of the bandmates.

A staple for the season, the S/S polo comes in striped patterns and includes Supreme’s logo on the front and Melvins iconography on the back. The t-shirts, available in neutrals of white, black, tan, and brown and seasonal colors of bright yellow, blue, and pink feature art from the 1994 album Prick and the 1991 album Bullhead. Finally, the caps, which come in camouflage, blue, and black, incorporate the two-headed dog from the 1993 album Houdini. This design is continued for the unique two-headed dog pillow.

Supreme x Melvins S/S 2024 collection drops on May 9th via Supreme’s website and will be available in Asia on May 11th. A celebration of the Seattle sound, this collection continues Supreme’s tradition of highlighting renowned musicians
