In a deeply personal campaign, the brand collaborates with Chinese artist Wei Yijuan, who takes us on her journey from bustling Xiamen to her family home in the serene Dongping mountains. It’s there, surrounded by nature and loved ones, that Wei found her muse for Byredo’s exclusive Lunar New Year motif.
Drawing on the sinuous elegance of the snake and the organic vitality of flowers, Wei’s artwork captures the intertwined beauty of life, symbolizing renewal and connection. “My paintings often use floating lines and bright colors to convey ideas of vitality,” Wei explains. “I see universal resemblance in the world—in tree roots, rivers, even blood vessels. This is what I want to portray.”
Photographed by Annie Lai, a close friend of Wei and fellow Fujian native, the campaign highlights intimate moments of homecoming: cooking in the family kitchen, paper lanterns adorning the rooftop, and sparklers lighting up the night. It’s a tender celebration of identity, culture, and the rituals that unite us.
