Brand Portrait: Lankes Gems
Gems Everywhere, every wear.
Lankes Gems is a Berlin-based jewelry brand that combines art, craftsmanship and cultural diversity while always remaining authentic. The eponymous founder Lisa Lankes is guided by nature and inspiring encounters. Inspirations develop into creations and suddenly she is the boss of her own brand. The Lankes Gems production facility is located in the Berlin-Schönefeld area. Here the made-to-order jewelry is handcrafted. Under the credo: “Praising the flawless imperfection”, Lisa makes the timeless pieces of jewelry with the utmost care. Lankes Gems Instagram shows a look behind the scenes, allowing the community to participate in the work process.
Lisa Lankes grew up in the countryside in southern Germany in a family of artists: Her father is a glassblower, her mother an art teacher. The creative environment shaped her early years and started her love for craftsmanship. It is therefore not surprising that she finds her way into the world of design. Lisa´s Puerto Rican and Polish roots add a diverse cultural perspective into her work.
At the age of 17 Lisa moved to Berlin to study photography at the BTK (College of Design). Working as a photographer with ambitions she expanded her skillset as an event manager. In 2021, she leaves Germany and lives in Portugal for two years to learn the art of goldsmithing at the LX Factory artist studio in Lisbon and discovers her passion for jewelry. She designs her first piece: the DBBLY ring.
The creative journey becomes a source of inspiration. Back in Berlin, Lisa decides to launch her own brand. What began as a hobby developed into a brand. The spectacular nature of Portugal - the red rock walls and lush flora - is reflected in many of her designs, such as the FLOR pendant. The pieces of jewelry in the shape of a flower with a rough structure can be combined effortlessly, creating jewelry for every occasion. The collection of silver rings, necklaces and earrings is
constantly being expanded.
The brand is already celebrating its first major successes. In an Adidas campaign with actress Jella Haase, the jewelry pieces are transformed into shoe accessories. The latest projects include the Speedcat Customization Workshop with Puma, in which guests embellish their own shoes. The collaboration with various artists, including music icon Blümchen, moderator and model Bonnie Strange, German comedian Aurel Merz and the Adana Twins, two producers from the electronic
music scene, shows how versatile the pieces of jewelry are.
In addition to the jewelry, Lankes Gems has its own merch with caps and bags produced in Germany. The new collection of hoodies and shirts bears the distinctive 3D logo looking like the gems. They are produced in Portugal, where the idea for the gems originate. In line with the brands credo, the flexible unisex pieces are versatile and fashionable. With a focus on authenticity it remains exciting what will be the next creation for Lankes Gems.
