Beyonce’s Cecred Candle and the Brand of Celebrity
What started with haircare could pivot into much more.
Beyoncé is a woman of many talents. She’s mainly known for her mastery of music, with millions of sales and tons of awards to her name. It’s no wonder you don’t have to look far to find a member of the Beyhive.
But, Beyoncé is also an established business woman. The days of Ivy Park, her athleisure brand, are far behind. But, while other celebs dabble in makeup and perfume, the singer has sought to venture into hair care.
Cécred (pronounced sacred) is a brand that’s dedicated to catering to all hair types. As her mother Tina Knowles was the owner of a salon, Beyoncé has a vested interest in passing that knowledge on through her brand.
In the same way that makeup brands have historically mostly catered to lighter skin tones, top hair care brands have often left those with textured hair behind. Seeing diversity in hair being brought to the forefront through Cécred is great for inclusivity.
It turns out, Cécred may not start and end with hair. Earlier this month they dropped a candle for sale on their website. While the $60 price tag is a steep ask for most, the launch of this product has intriguing implications for Cécred.
Perhaps, the name could go from being used just for hair care to more of a self care brand. While Fenty started off exclusively with makeup, Rihanna’s brand has now expanded to skincare and clothing. So they might not be limited to doing one thing and one thing only.
Celebrity owned brands can sometimes feel tacky but Beyonce’s have always had a certain regality to them. Cécred is making big splashes and it seems the brand will go to places not many will expect.
