I’m on the hunt for a new LBD, a piece that will carry me through the morning, afternoon, and night. I’ve had my fun with trendy patterns and bright silks, but at the end of the day, it’s the little black dress that we all consistently reach for.

But for a staple item that I’ll be wearing for multiple, multiple occasions, it has to be perfect. Described by Coco Chanel as “the uniform of all women of good taste,” the LBD is classic, timeless, and endlessly interpretable by the woman who wears it.

The best part of having the little black trusty savior in our closets is that it's less a dress and more a reflection of its wearer. Yes, the LBD is a uniform we all partake in, but it is not standardized. Whether it’s a structured mini or a silk slip, we all have our own definition of the piece.

So, if the LBD resists conformity and invites interpretation, what defines the perfect one? From flattering every inch of our bodies to transitioning seamlessly between occasions, the dress must feel uniquely ours. Also a must: versatility. The LBD should be both a moment on its own and blank canvas for styling.
