Berlin’s Most Exclusive Nightclub Berghain Is Transforming Into An Art Venue

One way to bypass the strictest door policy of all time

While Berghain’s doors remain closed to clubbers, a brand new exhibition will see the legendary club transform into a huge art venue in partnership with Christian and Karen Boros of the Boros Foundation

The mysticism of Berghain is undoubted. Known for its strict door policy, it’s impossible to predict whether you’ll be let inside and as phone cameras are taped over on the way in, only those who have been inside knowing exactly what it’s like. But now, the club is set to play host to a group show exhibition that will showcase artists living and working in Berlin, opening its doors to everyone, “even grandmas with Zimmer frames will be able to get in,” Christian Boros told The Art Newspaper.

Dubbed ‘Studio Berlin’, the exhibition will feature work across various disciplines including photography, sculpting, painting, video, sound, performance, and installation, produced in the city’s studios throughout lockdown. Over 80 artists will feature in the new exhibition in a mix up of well-known figures and young creatives such as Olafur Eliasson and Wolfgang Tillmans alongside Anne Imhof and Christine Sun Kim

The exhibition is to open to the public through guided tours of the works throughout the 3,500 sq.m nightclub landscape, including the elusive darkrooms. All proceeds of the ticket sales will go towards keeping Berghain going through lockdown.

Berghain’s ‘Studio Berlin’ will open on September 9 and bookings are set to become available online soon.
