Alicia Silverstone Returns As Cher In Clueless Sequel Series

Here’s what we know.

Alicia Silverstone is dusting off her plaid skirts and calling Mel—because she’s officially stepping back into the Manolos of Cher Horowitz. Peacock announced that Silverstone will reprise her iconic role in a brand-new Clueless sequel series, and yes, the internet is already totally buggin’.

From Matchmaker to... Momager?

Details are still hush-hush, but what we do know is that Silverstone, now 48, will also serve as executive producer alongside original writer-director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence. The series will reportedly pick up years after the 1995 film, following Cher as an adult navigating love, fashion, and the pitfalls of modern adulthood—presumably still in Beverly Hills, but with even more kombucha and less dial-up.

No word yet on whether Paul Rudd (aka ageless wonder Josh) will make an appearance, or if we’ll see cameos from other OG cast members. Brittany Murphy, who played the unforgettable Tai, passed away in 2009, but her legacy in the franchise remains beloved by fans.

Third Time’s the Charm?

This new chapter marks the third attempt to bring Clueless back to life. A TV spinoff starring Rachel Blanchard as Cher ran from 1996 to 1999, and a 2020 Peacock reboot that was supposed to follow Dionne in a Gen-Z mystery twist fizzled out before filming. This time, though, with Silverstone herself steering the ship, fans are hopeful the series will recapture the OG magic—Austen-core meet Y2K with a 2025 twist.

If done right, this could follow in the footsteps of other successful ‘90s revivals (see: And Just Like That, That ‘90s Show, or Frasier’s recent return). The big question now? Will Cher still say “Whatever” with her hands? We need to know.

Stay tuned for updates on the cast, release date, and whether Cher’s closet still rotates. One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be way existential.
