FKA Twigs and Getty Images Team Up to Empower Black Storytellers

The world’s largest commercial archive aims to elevate Black history.

FKA Twigs has been very busy already this year, and it's only February. Just weeks after the global superstar dropped her first music of the year, ‘Don’t Judge Me’ with Headie One and Fred Again, FKA Twigs has now announced a significant collaboration with Getty Images.

The project, which is set to be released later this year, is an homage to Black history in a creative look book of powerful images. Sourced and donated by Getty from their Hulton Archive and Editorial Collections, the visuals are being made available to support education and awareness about Black history. As an archive, the images will “make our history accessible for generations to come” says FKA Twigs on Instagram, where she announced the new initiative.

Continuing to celebrate Black History Month, this thought provoking collab seeks to inspire people of color and build upon past which is not as widely expressed through images. It’s personal to the singer as she states “when I was growing up it was something that I didn’t have ready access to”.

Known for her distinctive curled baby hairs and striking features, FKA Twigs has established herself as a force to be reckoned with. She has received a Webby Special Achievement Award for her “incredible contributions to digital culture”, and we’re sure her innovative manner won’t stop there.

As the project aims to empower Black artists in all forms, its available for creators and educators of color, along with non-profit organisations. Find out more here.

If everyone’s start to the year is as good as FKA Twigs, we will be unstoppable!
