Black Owned Everything launched on Friday, becoming fashion's one-stop-shop for black creatives and business owners. Championing black-owned fashion labels, Zerina Akers, stylist to the stars (including Queen B herself) founded the business last summer. Dubbed to be Instagram’s speed dial of black-owned business, Akers has gone above and beyond to create this brightening female-run, celebratory black creative hub!
“My favorite part about launching BOE is the feeling of bringing the Black community together, the pride of sharing our work, uplifting and supporting all of the amazing Black creators out there, and giving them a platform to showcase their talents, “ Akers told Hypebae.
Featuring brands on the site such as Greyscale tailoring, Johnny Nelson Jewelry (we're unhealthily obsessed), and Samaria Leah denim, the site aims to create a hub where black creatives can be celebrated for jewelry, ready to wear, activewear, homeware, tailoring, food…you name it, its there to be found!
The BOE motto reads, "A space where we can be celebrated. We no longer have to wait to be validated".
“There is power in our community, there is power in the black dollar and there is power in black creators. BOE is a multi-branded force to be reckoned with,” reads Akers in her BOE interview.
Amidst the racial tension during the start of the pandemic, worldwide global coverage of the #BLM movement was one of the largest civil rights movements to sweep country to country. In support of the black community and in defiance of police brutality and government laws, the inequality and injustice swiftly turn to all areas of racial inequality, looking closely at the fashion industry's shortcomings and flaws, many that needed to be corrected.
