Adidas x Blondey At Auction

Blondey's Superstar moment.

POSTED BY KAYLEIGH MCCALL

At this very moment, sneaker-heads all over the world will be on their knees crying over the fact that they missed out on the Blondey McCoy x Adidas Superstar re-release that dropped Tuesday, May 28.

The original collaboration dropped back in 2020, featuring Superstar 80s in four different colorways; Autre, Starlight Blue, Schwarz Tint and a hugely-hyped transparent sneaker embossed with the classic Blondey branding in gold, replacing the coveted Adidas logo – a dethroning for the ages.

McCoy has found incredible success at a young age. The skateboarder turned artist turned model turned designer began skating for Palace at just 14, with the skate brand assisting the legitimization of Blondey’s own label Thames MMXX when he was 15 years old. The brand was subconsciously created to house McCoy’s sporadic and genre-bending artwork when his obsessions with the skating world took his artistry to a point where it stood out more on a T-shirt than a canvas.

The London-born brand is slowly becoming a British cult phenomenon, housing retro sportswear and fresh, eccentric knits. The skate-led brand’s preppy apparel is flying off the shelves, with collections known to sell out in minutes.

Alongside the initial designs comes the “fifth and final installment of the Superstar project.” Thames will be auctioning off three pairs of Tourmaline Green Superstars: only 50 have been produced and up to this point have only been gifted to friends and family of the Adidas family. Despite the fixation, the primary colorways returned at their original price. McCoy himself noted that “one brief scan of StockX will tell you exactly how stupid we are, in case you were wondering …”
