Acne Studios and DJ Honey Dijon Unveil Gender-Neutral Capsule Collection
Capturing Mapplethorpe's legacy.
The latest chapter in the ongoing collaboration between Acne Studios and DJ Honey Dijon explores the life, work, and personal style of the legendary photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Mapplethorpe was a pioneering figure in the late 1960s and early 1970s art scene, and his imagery, along with his friends from the New York gay leather scene, serves as the inspiration for Dijon's third collection with the Swedish fashion house.
The capsule collection translates outfits seen in archival photos into gender-neutral style archetypes. One standout piece is the club classic - a mesh tank top inspired by military underwear, a favorite of Mapplethorpe himself. This updated tank top is made from fine cotton jersey mesh fabric with a subtle logo tag on the back. The mesh design extends to a body-hugging long-sleeve top with a Henley-style neckline, following Mapplethorpe's styling ideas.
The collection blends various fabrics with different textures and degrees of transparency, creating looks reminiscent of the photographer's work. A leather twinset evokes the sweaty nights of the underground club scene, featuring a perfectly cut pair of carrot-shaped pants and a boxy shirt, both crafted from soft lambskin leather.
The third Acne Studios x HFD Capsule Collection is now available at selected Dover Street Market locations and HFD Retail locations worldwide. This collaboration beautifully bridges the worlds of fashion, art, and personal expression, celebrating the iconic style and influence of Robert Mapplethorpe.
