A Rundown Of All The Best Shows From London Fashion Week SS20

Some final thoughts…

POSTED BY VALERIA WIWINIUS

As the fashion crowd is leaving the British capital for Milan, we’re recapping the best shows from London Fashion Week SS20 parade. Be ready for flowy ruffles, hyper-structured suits and everything in-between!

#1 Erdem

When asked about his inspiration, Erdem explained that the collection was based around yet another Italian dame: Tina Modotti. After obtaining initial fame as a silent movie star in Hollywood, Modotti moved to San Francisco where she lived out her photography dreams. Over the next few years, she spent a lot of time in Mexico which quickly became a source of inspiration for Erdem as well. “Her photography was kind of divided into two sections, romantic and revolutionary. And I thought there was something so beautiful about that.”, he explained. So do we, Erdem, so do we! His interpretation of Modotti came to life during a masterfully put-together show at the Gray’s Inn Gardens in central London. From elbow-length, slouchy gloves over shapeless crochet maxi dresses up to finely structured skirt suits in tapestry prints - ERDEM SS20 was not one to be missed this season.

#2 Supriya Lele

For British-Asian designer Supriya Lele, SS20 marked her debut at LFW. After showing with Fashion East for the past three seasons, Lele dived into her Indian heritage once again to confront us with a mesh-induced collection. Her talent was shining through every asymmetric, lemon micro top, sheered-out ultra violet midi skirt and blazing orange, checked two-piece. No wonder Lele is the best-selling womenswear brand at London’s famous Dover Street Market!

#3 Burberry

Let’s just say, the British fashion house is iconic for a reason. For his third collection, Ricardo Tisci continued to draw inspiration from Burberry’s past collections, but decided to add a bit of spice in the form of modern translations of Victorian silhouettes.
As the industry’s biggest supermodels (Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Irina Shayk and co were all present) took to the runway in reinterpreted trench coats, tassel-sleeved overalls and clean-cut skirt suits, we all got reminded why Burberry is one of the most anticipated shows every season. And if you ask us, its move to carbon neutrality deserves an extra round of applause!

#4 Simone Rocha

At Simone Rocha, SS20 was a reminder of how great hyper-femininity looks. In a defile of multi-layered, sheer chiffon dresses, the Irish designer presented her take on folklore. “I was thinking about the Irish wren-boys, who will go hunt and kill a wren on St. Stephen’s Day in Ireland - punkish boys who go knocking on doors”, she explained. “I wanted to bring that masculinity to the table but also turn and look into the houses of the people whose doors they knock on - at the Delft china, the tablecloths, the wallpaper.”  And that she did through every knee-high sock that peaked out of oversized platform sandals, every pearl handbag that dangled on the model’s arms, and every net-like embroidery that decorated the presented ruffled shirts.

#5 JW Anderson

Over at JW Anderson, the models were maneuvering around the square catwalk platform which was decorated by a geometrical installation of Canadian artist Liz Margot. This season, the designer played around with traditional clothing items and presented us maxi dresses, suits and trench coats with a little unexpected twist. His craftsmanship was shining through every puffed-out suit jacket, draped shirts and flowy maxi dress. The star of the show though were the beaded bra-like jewelry and glam belts that emphasized masterfully dropped waistlines.
