5 Ingredients To Eat Your Way To Better Skin

Because sometimes your skin needs a boost from the inside.

POSTED BY GABRIELA MOXON

No matter how good someone’s skin looks, the general consensus is that even those with the most blessed skin are never happy with it. Unfortunately, like most things in life there is no “one-size-fits-all” product to solve all of our woes. Same goes with skincare. But, what if natural skincare ingredients could not only treat some of our most common concerns, but also prevent them from occurring in the first place? Would you be in? Let’s take a dive.

1. Vitamin C

Look for foods and drinks with a high content of Vitamin C as it is an antioxidant and therefore, highly anti-inflammatory. Other benefits include: improving brightness, boosting collagen production, fighting radical damaging and boosting immunity. Find it in oranges (duh!), cranberry juice, berries, bell peppers and spinach. Easy peasy!

2. Hyaluronic Acid

The clue to this ingredient is in the first two letters of the name: hy-drating…Ahem. Yes, this ingredient is basically the holy grail of hydration both in its natural and topical forms. When consumed in food, it actually plumps the skin from the inside by improving the skin’s moisture, as well as the connective tissue. Find the acid in bone broth, leafy greens and citrus fruits. We know these aren’t the most exciting additions to your diet but we promise, your winter skin will thank you for it.

3. Vitamin A

Vitamin A is often confused with retinol but in fact, retinol is actually a derivative of Vitamin A. Translation: Vitamin A is where it’s at. The vitamin boasts massive anti-aging properties as well as contributing to an overall “je ne sais quoi” glow-up that creates smoother, more radiant skin. To add some A to your diet look no further than sweet potatoes (WE KNOW!), leafy greens, butternut squash, grass-fed meats, fish and eggs. (Tip: stock up on some cod liver oil tablets as they are also an excellent source.)

4. Resveratrol

You know the whole “a glass of red wine a day” myth? What would you say if it wasn’t a myth? If you take away nothing else, take away this: red wine contains resveratrol, resveratrol can help slow down aging as it is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It also protects against stress in the body and UV by neutralizing free radicals. Some great food and drink sources of resveratrol include: red wine, red grapes, berries, peanuts and pistachios. Forget wine and cheese night; we’re thinking wine and peanuts… anyone?

5. Omega 3 Fats

These fats you have probably heard of. They’re famous…this is because avocados contain them. Consuming Omega 3 fats helps improve skin texture by building up a stronger lipid layer on your skin cells, which locks in moisture and, in turn, improves your skin texture. Look no further than salmon, mackerel, sardines, avocado and cod liver oil. So, you can basically get your fix at Sunday brunch. Zero effort required!

We hope you will start to implement these natural ingredients into your diet to nourish your skin from the inside out. Let’s get eating our way to better skin. It’s as easy as 5 4 3 2 1…
