4 Times Megan Thee Stallion Flexed Her Anime Knowledge In Her Music
A weeb and a baddie!
If there’s one thing Grammy-winning Megan Thee Stallion loves just as much as making music, it’s anime. So much so that references to iconic anime shows and their characters have appeared throughout the rapper’s songs, visuals, and clothing over the past few years. Check out times the Houston native showed off her wits with these 4 anime callbacks.
Otaku Hot Girl
Starting with a more recent release, “Otaku Hot Girl” is quite the homage to anime, being jam-packed with references. The song itself samples the commercial break music used in the popular show Jujutsu Kaisen. It also features voice actor Adam McArthur who is the English dub of the show’s main character, Yuji Itadori.
Lyric Example: “Fightin’ demons in my head like I’m Itadori.”
Wanna Be
Even on collaborations Megan Thee Stallion comes equipped with anime references, like in her feature on Glorilla’s “Wanna Be.” The lyric in this song alludes to the show Attack On Titans, whose plot includes giant humanoid Titans who are trying to destroy the world as we know it.
Lyric Example: “I’m the female titan, I’m stepping on b*tches.”
Girls In The Hood
This next song took TikTok by storm in 2020. “Girls in the Hood” not only had a viral dance challenge but it also made noise for its Naruto reference. For many, this was their first introduction to Megan’s weeb side (even though it had been on display long before then).
Lyric Example: “Ima make him eat me out, while im watching anime. P*ssy like a wild fox, looking for a Sasuke.”
Running Up Freestyle
A great example of just how long the rapper has been displaying her love for anime through lyrics is the 2019 song “Running Up Freestyle.” In it, Megan mentions Dragon Ball Z's main character Son Goku, whose black hair turns blonde when he powers up.
Lyric Example: “When I switch my hair to blonde, I'm finna turn up like Goku.”
