Nia DaCosta Will Direct Adaptation of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Novel

‘The Water Dancer’ is a surrealist story about a pre-Civil war South.

‘Candyman’ director Nia DaCosta will be directing a film adaptation of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ best-selling novel ‘The Water Dancer.’ Coates’ debut novel is a surrealist historical account following Hiram Walker, a slave in Virginia, navigate a pre-Civil war south.

‘The Water Dancer’ was published by Random House under its One World imprint. DaCosta’s film adaptation will be affiliated with Maceo-Lyn, Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM), Brad Pitt’s Plan B, and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films.

Maceo-Lyn is a production company formed by Kamilah Forbes, Kenyatta Matthews and Ta-Nehisi Coates. Brad Pitt’s Plan B and Coates are currently working together on another project titled ‘Wrong Answer.’
