Writing Fashion With A Capital F! Tips For Fashion Articles

Overcome writer's block and ignite your creativity.

POSTED BY JESSICA LIMACHER

We are confronted with a white empty, Sloshed vast, blank page. It’s our job to grab the canvas and show our creativity using inky little fingers on the page we all dread.

Despite its initial intimidation, this page is not your adversary but your trusty companion, always ready to receive your thoughts and ideas, unlike the Gucci boots you bought last season, which were a disappointing counterfeit.

Though it may seem daunting at first, our journey is a thrilling adventure waiting to be embarked upon. It's a journey that will spark your passion, ignite your drive, and fill your world with splendor. Here are a few tips for writing an article. Yes, they may not be groundbreaking, but having a guide is like having a compass that points north, guiding you to face the blank page head-on, regardless of doubt.

Research

A big one is to be well versed in a subject from fashion to politics. Everyone must have a basis to know how to stab at their writing.

But where do I start?

First, draw a mind map with keywords like “fashion,” and write what you know. Start with senses on a piece of paper:

Sight: dress, fabric material.

Sound: bustle of tulle, clunk of bangles, buzz from lights.

Smell:  dust of powdery makeup. Fleshy wooden floor.

Taste: atmosphere, raw and sharp.

Touch:  emotions or physical feel of each garment.

Once your whirlwind of a mind map is done, you can filter down as you're drafting later to know all the essential words.

Context

Find a background to the story through others or personal experience, like shopping at Target. Make not just the right choices of credible sources but deliciously indulge in the writing of another to grasp an understanding of their viewpoint. Every piece of art is stolen; we don’t live in a vacuum.

Stay Objective: Make sure you have a point “Angle “, but make sure you do not nesters super personal unless it comes from the heart or is subjective.

Once you have most, you can start to pick up the subject; remember to be descriptive and stay on track!
