Who Said Campaigning Doesn’t Work? *Laughs In Animal Rights Activism*
Sephora has finally banned mink-fur lashes.
Animal rights activists show us the power of campaigning yet again, as beauty giant Sephora announces that they will stop selling mink-fur lashes. This huge victory follows a powerful campaign from PETA, featuring a graphic video that highlights the cruelty of the fur farms, where mink fur for eyelashes is harvested: “In the fur industry, minks sometimes languish with infections and broken or malformed legs. Some even self-mutilate as a result of the intensive confinement.” Sephora was called to action by criticizing the false advertising of mink lashes as “cruelty-free”.
The PETA campaign was prompted by over 280,000 emails from concerned shoppers demanding change towards more cruelty-free beauty industry. As a result, Sephora has already put in motion plans to phase mink lashes out of stock and will purchase only synthetic and faux-fur lashes going forward. The power truly is in numbers.
