What You Missed at the SAG Awards
Calling all my red-carpet watchers!
Awards season means many things: heart-warming speeches, stunning red carpet moments, and a mixed bag of surprises and snubs. The 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards praises the best acting performances of the year, both on the big and small screen.
The Daniel's multiversal sci-fi romp Everything Everywhere All At Once continues to dominate this awards season, nabbing four out six awards in the film category. Michelle Yeoh makes history yet again, becoming the first Asian Actress to win the prestigious Best Actress category, along with co-star Ke Huy Quan trailblazing in his own category. Usually a prime indicator of where the Academy will lean come Oscars night, this SAG award is a good sign for Oscar hopeful Yeoh.
The White Lotus’ palm-tree-covered intrigue captured the obsession of at-home audiences, seemingly translating to award-show success. The all-star cast won Best Ensemble, with Jennifer Coolidge securing Best Actress for a TV show. Jessica Chastain, winning for limited series George & Tammy, took home a SAG Award for the second year consecutively.
The awards got off to a rocky start, with a chaotic mishap causing stars such as Bill Murray and Claire Foy being stranded outside the Fairmont Plaza Hotel in Santa Monica, California. Once inside, the awards saw a drama-free night of fanfare and applause.
Sally Field, winner of SAG’s Lifetime Achievement Award, was reunited with her The Amazing Spiderman co-star Andrew Garfield as he guided her to the stage. Possibly Sunday’s most talked about moment will be presenters Jenna Ortega and Aubrey Plaza combined dark and brooding-girl-energy resulting in comedy-gold.
Zendaya stunned in her red-carpet return, turning heads while looking pretty in pink.
