We Interview Up And Coming Singer-Songwriter Erin Bloomer

Talking female empowerment, new music and looking to the future.

POSTED BY HANNAH MASSEY

At 17, many of us have dreams and aspirations, but only a few manage to make their dreams a reality at such a young age. After the recent release of her playful and exciting debut album, Erin Bloomer, talks to Fizzy Mag about her continuously rising music career. With her debut single, 'Lately', Bloomer writes carefree and relatable lyrics about things young girls face in everyday life. We spoke to Erin about her musical influences, how to cope with being in the spotlight at such a young age and her up and coming projects.

Being a young female artist, why do you think it’s important to encourage female artists in the music industry?

Erin: Girls don’t get or give themselves enough credit and they need to know that! Female artists can and should be given opportunities to be just as successful as anyone else out there - look at Ariana Grande. We're under-represented, but hopefully, that will continue to change. I definitely want to be a part of it.

Who would you say would be your dream collaboration and why?

Erin: Blackbear. I absolutely love his music and he has such a unique sounding voice.

Music and fashion are both forms of creating art and expressing yourself. Would you say your musical style and fashion sense go hand in hand?

Erin: I would say they do. I am SO obsessed with fashion. I have an urban/y2k kind of style but still filled with loads of different colors – neon green is my all-time favorite. I think that translates to my music.

Have you got any important events or projects coming up anytime soon?

Erin: I have my debut EP coming out this summer and the first single called ‘Lately’ is going to be released on May 17th. We also shot a music video for Lately, which was such a fun experience. I can’t wait to get it out there and show everyone what I’ve been working on.

What is your favorite thing about performing?

Erin: Performing is a completely different vibe because it’s more personal — you can truly connect with the audience.

Do you find that there is a lot of pressure being a young artist in the spotlight and how do you cope with that?

Erin: I think that there can be, but I’ve been doing it for a while and I’ve got a lot more comfortable over time with what I post or upload, but I used to be so picky! You’ve just got to realize that you should do what YOU want to do, not what everybody says you should. I’ve also got a great support system from my friends and family, which I’m very lucky to have.

What advice would you give to other young artists who want to pursue a career in music?

Erin: Do your own thing and be your own person! It is okay to be inspired by someone, but there is already one of them out there and your uniqueness is what will grab people’s attention. Also, use social media to your advantage, we are lucky enough to live in a day and age where the internet can really help you get noticed.

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years’ time?

In 5 years’ time, I want to be on a stage touring, playing festivals, performing at the BRITS — with an album or two out! That would be crazy.
