Virgil Abloh's Queen Collection For Serena Williams
An intuitive consortium of fashion and tennis.
Serena Williams in the eyes of Virgil Abloh is the Queen of the generation. A fierce tennis player ranked as a world Top 30. She is a mother who addresses the truths of motherhood in all its glory and its stressful downfalls. She is a female activist and she isn't afraid to serve a back hand when needed.
Not one to shy away from every rocking some of tennis's most interestingly chic outfits at Flushing Meadows she has won not only six major titles at the US Open to date. Her comeback at the French Open in Paris with her Cat Suit had many a jealous eye call it out as "illegal tennis attire".
But for the 50th Anniversary of the tournament, Williams is once again ready to exhibit a fashion finesse no other tennis player can match, this time with the most sought after designer of the era, Virgil Abloh. A collaborative partnership of two greats of their generation pushing the envelope in both their careers. Renegades of the establishment.
The Queen collection is in a signature Virgil style of minimalist grace, using his quotational sarcasm as a comical satire with "LOGO" printed above the Swoosh. The words "SERENA" and "QUEEN" dance playfully around the garments. The dress, a one shoulder long-sleeve tulle skirt lyrca-esque silhouette in Black and soft lilac, a nod to Serena's Ballet training and graceful performance on and off the court; will be paired with a jacket and custom sneakers. It was created to be worn on the skin, move with the body and features a cooling system to combat the sweltering New York evenings. The dress is an embodiment of female power.
No Queen can play a match in basic sneakers, no, Serena will step on to the New York Courts in a special edition PE of the Nike Court Flare 2 with the glitz and glitter a Queen deserves.
The full kit will feature both black and lilac dresses, a matching jacket, bag, the NikeCourt Flare 2 as well as the limited editions of The 10: Nike Air Max 97 and The 10: Nike Blazer Mid SW.
