Vintage Frames Company, the renowned eyewear retailer and collector led by industry pioneer Corey Shapiro, proudly announces the acquisition of an iconic piece of film and fashion history: the original Ultra Goliath II frame famously worn by Robert De Niro as Ace Rothstein in the 1995 film Casino. As one of the largest curators of designer vintage eyewear globally, Vintage Frames Company acquired the frame at a highly competitive Propstore auction in Los Angeles. The final sale price reached $11,536.02, including dealer fees and taxes, after an initial hammer price of $8,500. This historic acquisition reaffirms VFC’s dedication to preserving the legacy of iconic eyewear.

Adding this piece to its archive marks a new chapter for the Ultra Goliath II, a frame that not only made a bold fashion statement but became a cultural symbol. In Casino, De Niro’s portrayal of Rothstein elevated the XXL frame’s status as an emblem of confidence and power, influencing generations of viewers and fashion enthusiasts alike. The larger-than-life silhouette has since become synonymous with strength and sophistication, transcending film to become a staple in music, pop culture, and celebrity fashion.

Over the years, this iconic frame has graced other high-profile faces, including Elliot Gould in Ocean’s Eleven as Rueben Tishkoff, legendary Chicago Cubs announcer Harry Caray, director George Romero, and musician The Weeknd. The frame even took center stage in Vintage Frames Company’s recent sold-out collaboration with RUN DMC, commemorating the hip-hop group’s 35th anniversary with a customized version of the VFC XXL.

While the frame is now part of the Vintage Frames Company archive, it may one day find its way to another collector with a passion for vintage eyewear history. For those inspired by its legacy, the VFC XXL remains one of the brand’s bestselling styles, offering fans a chance to own a piece of iconic eyewear heritage.
