Some people naturally exude confidence. However, it doesn’t come easily to others. Often, it takes a lot of work and patience to build a high level of confidence, which usually comes with time.

Something that can elevate or lower a man’s confidence is height. Since society places so much importance on height, particularly in men, it can be more difficult for shorter men to feel confident in themselves.

Although height makes no difference to who you are or how worthy you are, it’s not easy to ignore it when you’re constantly reminded about the importance of being tall as a male. Many women state that they only date men who are at least six feet tall, and males often make height-related jokes to their shorter friends.

How to Build Confidence as a Short Guy

Being a few inches shorter than your friends can destroy your confidence and leave you vulnerable and ‘undatable’. Stereotypes are difficult to avoid, and you might feel you’re at a disadvantage as a shorter guy.

However, this is not the case. Short guys can thrive just as much as taller guys, and there is no reason why they can’t find a woman or man who loves them no matter what.

Here are some tips to help you become more confident as a shorter man.

Dress in clothes that make you feel confident

The clothes you wear can make a massive difference in how you feel, showing when you feel comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing.

Make sure your clothes suit your body shape and fit you well. Build outfits that fill you with confidence and make you feel good about yourself.

Remember that fashion is a form of creativity, and you should never be afraid to express yourself through clothing choices. Whether you’re a color lover or prefer monochromatic outfits, find clothing you love, and don’t worry about the opinions of others.

You could also complement your outfits with height-increasing shoes to further boost your confidence. Height-elevating shoes are a great way to add a few extra inches to your height in a subtle way and still look fashionable, so you can walk around with your head held high.

Practice positive affirmations

As cringy as it might sound, reminding yourself of everything that you love about who you are and what you do can make a huge difference to your confidence. There is scientific research confirming the benefits of positive affirmations and they’re great when your confidence levels have taken a hit.

Regularly saying positive affirmations aloud or even just thinking about them can rewire your brain to look out for the positives in all areas of your life. It reminds you of everything that makes you amazing and teaches you how to recognize your unique qualities.

Height isn’t the only thing that defines you. In fact, many other things are more important than the number of feet on the ruler.

Maybe you’re a highly empathetic and caring person, or you’re the funniest guy in the room and can easily make a group of people laugh. You could be a talented musician, a DIY handyman, or a strong academic.

Focusing on your best qualities will boost your self-esteem almost immediately and enable you to forget about your height for good.

Play on your advantages

Being shorter than average comes with advantages, even if they might not seem so obvious initially. There are plenty of positives that you can enjoy as a short guy that your taller friends can’t.

For example, you’ll be much comfier on long car journeys or flights because you’ll have more legroom. You can stretch out your leg and chill out until you arrive at your destination, which is something your taller friends might struggle with.

Shorter individuals often excel in certain sports due to their lower center of gravity and higher speed and agility. Thanks to your shorter stature, you’ll be better at gymnastics, rock climbing, and diving. You also have a lower risk of injury due to higher stability and better balance.

These are just a few examples of using your shorter-than-average height to your advantage. You should not feel upset about it, and you are still fully capable of achieving your dreams, regardless of your height.

Accept compliments and take credit for your achievements

Many people struggle to accept compliments and believe in themselves. However, as a short guy, accepting other people’s positive words about you is a great way to build your confidence.

Next time somebody compliments you, stop yourself from dismissing their kind words. Pay the other person a compliment too, or simply say, ‘Thank you.’ The more you accept compliments, the more you’ll start to believe them yourself and the more confident you’ll feel.

You deserve to feel good about yourself, as does everybody around you. Celebrate when you do something great, and take the time to appreciate the person you are today. Each day, remind yourself of your achievements and practice gratitude to identify the wonderful things you have in life.

Focus on personal growth

Confidence stems from within, and it grows when you focus on personal growth. Ignore what other people around you are doing and try and catch yourself when you notice that you’re comparing yourself to others.

Set short-term and long-term goals that give you something to work toward and make you feel proud when you achieve them. Whether you have career goals, financial goals, or personal milestones that you want to reach, keep them in your mind as much as possible.

When you’re able to visualize a positive future, it will impact you in the present. You’ll start feeling more confident, happier, and more motivated to succeed in all aspects of life. Accomplishing your goals and pushing your limits will reinforce your belief in your abilities and contribute to a strong sense of self-worth.
