They say that health is wealth and honestly, they’re not wrong. Without your health being in the best possible state, your life is going to be harder. Whether it’s your weight being too much and causing you to move less because you physically cannot, or it’s your heart starting to strain under the stress you deal with in your day to day, you need to do better with your health and the thing is - it’s up to you to make it work.

There is a ton of information out there on what you could be doing to keep your health in check. Whether you choose to have gastric sleeve surgery because you have tried but not managed to stick to a healthy lifestyle, or you choose to seek out a practitioner for yoga and get your body as healthy as your mind, you need to do something in order to get your health where it’s supposed to be. With that thought in mind, here are some of the things that you can do for better health:

  1. Get moving. Moving your body - even with a thirty minute walk a day - is enough to keep your heart healthy and your body supple. You want to feel good on the inside and a big part of that will be in how often you have a chance to move. You have a much better chance at managing your health if you can keep physically active where possible.

  2. Give up the bad habits. Smoking and drinking may sound like fun activities when you are young but they’re not going to do your body or your physical health any good. You increase your risks of diabetes and other illnesses when you continue bad habits that have an impact on your health. Drinking alcohol is mostly okay in moderation but it’s binge drinking and excessive drinking that have a long term toll on your health. Don't risk liver disease and high blood pressure when you don't have to!

  3. Eat a balanced diet. Whether you choose to go ahead and stabilize your weight with gastric sleeve surgery or not, you need to work on how many servings of fruit and veggies you have each day. You need the vitamins and minerals to help you to repair your injured tissues and reduce your cancer risk. It’ll also keep your brain and heart healthier and you need that!
  4. Work on your weight. Half the battle with joint pain and breathlessness comes from a mismanaged weight. It’s often not the fault of the person who is obese as there are plenty of factors that come into play when it comes to weight. However, you should be doing as much as you physically can to keep your weight normal. By managing your diet and speaking to your doctor, you could stabilize your weight and learn how to eat a healthy diet until you are satisfied.

  5. Seek therapy. Even those who don't have pre-existing mental health conditions need therapy from time to time. Seek help and soothe your mind while you look after your body.

The most important thing you have is your health: now you know how to take care of it, it’s time to get it sorted!
