Tokyo Photographer Haruhiko Kawaguchi Vacuum Seals Subjects
“Photographer Hal” known for his plastic wrapped portraits
Tokyo based Photographer Haruhiko Kawaguchi also known as “Photographer Hal” specializes in a unique portraiture photography that entails plastic wrapping of subjects. Kawaguchi’s aim is to explore human intimacy, connection, and love by vacuum sealing them together.
Subjects, often staged in beautifully vulnerable positions, are rendered breathless while under the shrink wrap. Haruhiko has even wrapped entire homes.
"When I started the series, I asked some of my closest friends to test how long they could hold their breath for, and found it was about 15 seconds. So, I decided to set a '10-second rule' whereby I open the bag after 10 seconds, regardless of whether (I have taken the photo) or not," Kawaguchi told CNN.
Photographer Hal has had works showcased in several solo and group exhibitions. Along with his work exhibited by Jean Pigozzi, notable art collector of African and Japanese art.
