The Need-To-Know Info On RuPaul’s Drag Race UK: Season 2

The season will premiere on January 14th 2021.

As if arriving from the heavens, drag legend RuPaul has announced that season two of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will drop in the New Year.

The perfect palate cleanser for the year we’ve all had, if you ask us.

Season one was a ratings hit, with BBC iPlayer receiving 6.5 million watch requests just halfway through the series. It featured a host of guest stars, including Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, and former Spiderman Andrew Garfield. Drag Race franchise veteran Michelle Visage will return to the judging panel, undoubtedly ready to throw more shade.

This year, twelve queens will vie for the title of the UK’s Next Drag Superstar.

The second season, which will run for ten weeks, was confirmed before the first season finished airing. Production was temporarily suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Just to make things more exciting, season two of Drag Race UK will drop two weeks after the premiere of season 13 of Drag Race (USA) on January 1st, meaning that the series will run simultaneously.

Notably, Drag Race (USA) season 13 will make history in having the first ever trans male contestant. 24-year-old celebrity makeup artist Gottmik told Entertainment Weekly:

“… I feel like me doing feminine drag is confusing to a lot of people. I want to show everyone that no matter what you transition to, boy or girl, there’s a whole gender spectrum in between…”

The Drag Race UK season two cast includes dancer Asttina Mandella (who has performed for Little Mix, Kanye West, and the Pussycat Dolls), mental health nurse Cherry Valentine, and East London’s “bendiest queen” Bimini.

Yep, we’re intrigued.

Episodes of Drag Race UK will arrive weekly in the United Kingdom on BBC iPlayer at 7pm BST. American fans can catch each episode at 2pm/11am PT on the WOW Presents Plus streaming app.

You can meet all the queens on BBC Three's YouTube channel here.
