The Balmain x Barbie Collab Is Unisex
And enters the digital world
Last year, Barbie was honored with the title "Fashion Icon 2021" by the Fashion Icon Awards and Arab Fashion Council. Barbie certainly is a fashion icon to many, including designer Oliver Rousteing. In celebration of Claudia Schiffer's 50th birthday in 2021, the creative director of Balmain created a look for a mini Claudia Barbie inspired by the dress she modeled in the Balmain Spring/Summer 2016 campaign.
This year, he demonstrated his love for the famous doll once more by releasing a collection in collaboration with the toy company. Featuring mainly unisex pieces in Barbie pink, the capsule collection definitely breaks the stereotype that pink is a girly color.
The ready-to-wear collection will be available worldwide on January 13th. Apart from human-sized clothes and accessories, three NFTs will come up for auction on January 11th on the Mattel Creations website. Each one of those three avatars is dressed in a look from the collection. Plus, the highest bidder also gets a Barbie-sized version of that look. Make sure to mark these dates in your calendar and best of luck to anyone bidding.
