The Aviary Is Skall Studio at Its Most Refined At CPHFW

There's a misconception that quiet fashion is emotionless. That if a collection isn't over the top, it isn't saying anything. Skall Studio continues to prove the thought wrong.

For Spring/Summer 2027, sisters Julie and Marie Skall presented The Aviary, a collection that explored freedom as the confidence to move through the world on your own terms. Rather than relying on grand statements, the collection trusted texture, craftsmanship, and restraint to tell its story. I found myself slowing down to really look, and I think that's exactly what the designers intended.

Freedom Was Woven Into Every Look

The idea of birds could have easily become a literal motif, but Skall Studio approached it with far more class.

Inspired by the independent women immortalized in Birds of Britain, figures like Jane Birkin and Marianne Faithfull, the collection imagined freedom as something deeply personal. It wasn't about dressing loudly. It was about dressing without constraint.

Soft linen separates drifted around the body instead of shaping it. White lace dresses felt delicate without becoming precious, while relaxed tailoring and layered scarves suggested clothing that evolves with the person wearing it rather than dictating who she should be. Even skirts layered over trousers carried a sense of flight, as though every outfit had been assembled instinctively instead of styled to perfection.

That refusal to feel overly composed is exactly what gave the collection its elegance and delicacy.

The Clothes Carry Their Own Story

One thing to know about Skall Studio is that sustainability isn't treated as a marketing headline. It's embedded in every design decision.

Sensing where a garment comes from changes the way you look at it. Danish wool spun locally, organic cotton, European linen, and carefully sourced natural materials aren't invisible details. They become part of the garment's identity.

There's an intuitive honesty in that approach. The sisters don't ask us to admire sustainability as an abstract concept. They invite us to appreciate the people, landscapes, and generations of craftsmanship that exist behind each piece. The clothes feel connected to somewhere, and I think that's becoming increasingly rare to behold.

Fashion often celebrates constant reinvention, encouraging us to replace what we own before we've had time to build a relationship with it. Skall Studio offers an entirely new philosophy.

These pieces were designed to soften with wear, gather their lines, and become more meaningful over time. The brand's commitment to repairing garments instead of replacing them says just as much about its values as the collection itself. They're made to age gracefully with you.

I kept thinking that The Aviary wasn't really asking us to buy less. It was asking us to value more. To treasure what we earn, what we show.

Walking away from the show, I wasn't thinking about a single piece alone, isolated as a big statement. I was thinking about how rare it is for a collection to make slowness feel aspirational.

In a season where many designers explored bigger silhouettes, expanded styling, or sharper concepts, Skall Studio found power in restraint. The Aviary wasn't chasing fading novelty. It argued that freedom isn't found in having endless choices, but in knowing exactly what deserves a place in your life.

For me, that's what made this one of Copenhagen Fashion Week's most special collections. Not attention seeking here, but because it earned it.
