Fifteen seasons and Two-Hundred episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race has brought us so many amazing moments; from drama to iconic fashion moments (with the occasional no-ment) and unforgettable lip-syncs, the show has been at the center of a revolution. On top of all this, the challenges posed to the queens have kept the level of talent high all season long. One of the most anticipated challenges of the season comes in the form of the Ball. This is inspired by the ballroom culture of the 1980s and 1990s in New York, and the requirements of the contestants is to bring three different looks to the runway under different themes, or 'categories' as they’re known on the show. The Ball on Season 15 kept up the high caliber of looks that we’re used to seeing with this challenge. The 15th anniversary of anything is known as the Crystal anniversary, so together, let’s dive into the tip-top talent of The Crystal Ball.

The first category was “Start Your Engines,” based on RuPaul’s iconic look in the promotional material of the first season of Drag Race. There were some really great tributes to Mother Ru, but one of the strongest came from Spice. The glittery checkered flag detail running throughout the look keeps it true to the theme, but with the hair and the cut of the dress alongside the thigh-high boots keeps it authentically Spice. A small but checkered flag bearing Spice’s catchphrase from week one ties both of these together in a tasteful yet playful way, which is very Spice.

The second category was “My Favourite Ball Look,” meaning that the queens had to present a runway looked based on a Ball from a previous season. Two looks stood out; Mistress Isabella Brooks and Luxx Noir London. Mistress took inspiration from the Ball Ball of Season 12 and did a beach ball-themed, Club Kid-inspired gimp suit. It was fun and charismatic yet high fashion. However, Luxx Noir London took inspiration from the Hair Ball of Season 3. With a black mini-skirt, bra, and collar made out of hair paired with black vinyl gloves, it fulfills the brief gorgeously while bringing that Luxx Noir London body positivity and the sass we’ve come to live for. A job well done by all accounts.

The final category is “Crystallized Eleganza,” in which the queens had to make their looks from scratch, incorporating crystals however they see fit. There was a clear standout here; Anetra’s look was jaw-dropping. A floor-length, champagne-colored trumpet gown absolutely stole the show. Hemmed and lined and featuring a spine of pure crystals, there were no words. This was the final look of the night, and rightly so. With the crystal earrings matching all of the intricate detailing throughout the gown, this could be the last look on the runway of a fashion week show. Anetra walked that f*cking duck up and down that runway, and this look shows as another side to a true all-arounder.

Regardless of favorites, this was a fashion feast. Every single week, the queens turn out looks and keep us guessing. This Ball, as expected, brought the fashion, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. Catch all this glamour on Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race on MTV or stream on WOW Presents Plus.
