Ten Lee Is A Straight “Stunner” In Latest Release
Perfect for the summertime!
Summer has arrived early this year, as K-pop idol Ten Lee brings the heat with his second mini album, Stunner.
It’s been a while since the singer last graced listeners with solo music, his self-titled debut a testament to his ability to stand alone as an artist. Now, he’s returned with a new project that expands his creative identity and speaks to his versatility.
Having a runtime of 21 minutes, Stunner is a concise but well-crafted album composed of 7 unique tracks (one being the English translation of another), each showcasing a different layer of Ten’s musical personality. Its title track of the same name opens the body of work with a sense of suaveness thanks to its 90s-esque production and airy vocals.
“BAMBOLA,” the album’s pre-release track, ventures more into the experimental side. Its disjointed electronic transitions from verse to verse and eclectic flow changes can be disorienting to some. But for others, it’s the type of unconventional sound one would expect from a member of NCT.
As for the b-sides, “Sweet As Sin” is a real standout; the hip-hop-focused production and heavy baseline show off a grimier part of Ten. While “Enough For Me” plays into more of an early 2000s Justin Timberlake type of sound.
The album loses some steam when it transitions to “Waves,” a rather generic tropical pop track that offers nothing new in uniqueness. But it regains its footing a bit with the dreamy piano ballad “Butterfly,” meant to showcase Ten’s vocal abilities.
Overall, Stunner is a confident and explorative album whose stronger tracks more than makeup for its weaker ones. It’s safe to say that Ten Lee knows exactly what he’s doing, making his future as a soloist a promising one.
