Taylor Swift Is The Music Industry
The pop icon shatters a seemingly impossible Billboard Hot 100 record.
As of yesterday, Taylor Swift has broken yet another record within the music industry.
Billboard posted their weekly update of the top 10 songs in the United States yesterday, coming off the heels of one of their most historic Billboard Hot 100 number one hits with Sam Smith and Kim Petras garnering the top spot, making them the first trans/non-binary artists to land atop the chart with their hit Unholy. This week's top 10 is just as historic because Taylor Swift is now the first artist in the history of Billboard and the music industry to occupy every single slot in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10.
Every single song that debuted in every slot of the top 10 this week comes from Swift's new album Midnights, which is her first album of entirely new music since Evermore in late 2020. Following Evermore, Swift took some time to focus on the re-recordings of her previous albums, including Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version), which also shattered many records and garnered the pop superstar a handful of number-one hits, billions of streams, and numerous awards.
This week, however, Swift broke a Billboard Hot 100 record previously held by Drake, who in September of 2021 had nine songs simultaneously chart in the top 10 due to the release of his album Certified Lover Boy. Just over a year later, Taylor has now managed to break this seemingly impossible-to-achieve record held by Drake. This achievement by Swift is a testament to her remarkable legacy and staying power within the industry, as well as the insane level of loyalty of her fanbase known as the Swifties.
