5 Steps to Achieve a Positive Mindset And Better Life
“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.” - Rory T. Bennett
While positive thinking sounds ideal, it’s easily dismissed because most of us are realists. At times our outlook on life can be pessimistic and gloomy, especially since we have had to endure the numerous lockdowns. When we constantly perceive life to be negative, it increases stress and can even lower overall self-esteem. Research has shown that positive thinking is way more than just having a hopeful attitude, it can actually create an improved life.
Personally, choosing to think positively about situations has helped me to become the motivational, happy person I am today. Below are 5 ways we can train our minds to live a happier life.
1. Setting goals
Being motivated to reach goals is an essential first step for a better life. It propels us to be in a stage of constant improvement, striving for success. You can do this by creating a vision board, splitting it into sections of short-term and long term and different categories such as relationships. Alternatively, you can simply write them down. By focusing and organizing our time, it helps us to maximize our full potential.
2. Manifestation and affirmations
First, let’s start with some definitions as I know it can all get a little confusing. Manifestation is gravitating something towards you through the attraction. Affirmations are statements in the present tense that explain to the universe what you want to manifest. For this to come to life, you write down 5 things that you are already grateful for, followed by 5 things you want, but as if you already have them. Top tip: repeat this every day to start seeing results and, be patient!
3. Books to inspire you
- Good Vibes, Good Life, Vex King
- The Secret, Rhonda Byrne
- 30 Days: Change Your Habits Change Your Life, Marc Reklau
4. Health and Fitness
Fitness should be like showering: an essential part of our day! It has been scientifically proven that a healthier lifestyle and exercise leads to a positive mindset. While working out improves our physical appearance, it also has huge effects on our brain and mood.

5. Turning negatives into positives
Perhaps the most important step is to rid your life of negativity. It’s extremely easy for negative thoughts to multiply. Take the example of 1 negative thing happening in the morning, you then tell yourself that you’re “having a bad day”. One negative thought can override 10 positives, which is why it’s crucial to try to remove bad thoughts. Remember, positivity is a choice.
