Spy-Cam Porn Protests In South Korea

Our lives are not for your pleasure.

The rise of spy-cam pornography in South Korea is hitting global headlines as women take to the streets to protest this sexual abuse.

Men are taking secret videos of women and sharing them, often the men are even friends or partners to the victims of their crimes. Hiding cameras in public bathrooms is a popular way to source the videos, and women often have to search the cubicles for hidden holes before they can use the bathrooms. But the filming takes place in most public spaces, creating an unsafe atmosphere for women of all ages.

The demonstrations against this started in Seoul in May, and have taken place every month since then. The protestors are hoping for the introduction of laws against this sort of unconsensual filming, before the epidemic spreads to other countries.

The South Korean news agency Yonhap has reported that the government is planning to introduce stricter policies to police this crisis. Currently there are enforcements against people found to have produced or filmed spy cam porn – fines or short prison sentences. However these punishments do not appear effective as the number of reported incidents have been steadily rising.
