Spring 2026 Anti-Trends: Pieces That Will Make You Look Dated This Season

Here's what you can replace them with.

POSTED BY ANNMARY MAILYAN

Keeping up with fashion trends is no easy task: just when I finally get that one piece that was everywhere, it suddenly turns out to be already outdated. Of course, I still believe in wearing whatever you love if trends aren’t your priority.

However, if staying fashion-forward matters, here’s what I'd personally skip in spring 2026.

Monochrome looks

Monochrome outfits are often considered timeless, cause they make you look polished no matter what. But the thing is that 2026 isn’t about looking flawless. This year embraces colors, contrast, patterns, and a touch of imperfection, and it's hard to achieve that with one-colored outfits. Instead, feel free to add at least one statement shade to your look.

A bright red bag or a heavy blue coat will break the monotony and add more personality.

Leather Leggings

They reached peak popularity in the early 2010s; everyone dreamed of owning a pair. Now, however, they tend to feel old-fashioned. And let’s be honest, they weren’t always the most flattering piece in the first place, which is why we often paired them with long sweaters or tops for balance.

If you love leather textures, opt for wide-leg pants to instantly elevate your look.

Slim-Fit Midi Skirts

Personally, I’m glad that this trend is stepping aside, because tight skirts can feel restrictive and limit the movement. The fashion universe may have finally heard our complaints, as those are no longer leading the trend cycle. This season favors more comfortable, yet more stylish, options, like A-line, pleated, circle, or flowy wrap skirts.

They bring softer and more ethereal energy to any outfit.

Fur Vests

Unless you’re intentionally channeling the mob wife aesthetic, fur vests should probably stay in the past. They tend to disrupt proportions and often look slightly off, since they’re really difficult to pair with other pieces.

There are also far more versatile options to choose from for every taste: leather, denim, sweater, down, or tailored vests.

Black and white outfits

Black and white are usually praised as the ultimate pairing. Right now, though, it’s best to take a break from this combination for a while in favor of other matches. As mentioned earlier, 2026 is finally allowing us to get rid of those strict trends, focusing instead on some chaos and creativity. So, it's best not to match these colors together.

Try wearing beige, light grey, or blue, and baby pink with black. And white will go perfectly with dark grey, navy blue, olive green, and other muted shades.

Small bags

I have often found myself looking at those tiny bags and wondering how anyone fits all their essentials inside. Well, thankfully, there's no need to guess anymore, as micro bags are out of the game, making room for our favorite oversized styles again. Not only are they practical, but they’ve also become a statement accessory, adding main-character energy to the look.

Now that you know which pieces to avoid this season, take a look through my FizzyPicks to discover stylish alternatives for these anti-trends.
