Some Good News About The Coronavirus Outbreak

Major fashion companies and Chinese tech giants raised a collective $2.88 billion for combatting the coronavirus.

The statistics for the coronavirus outbreak is growing alarmingly everyday. As of early Monday, there are over 17,000 confirmed cases worldwide and 361 deaths in China and one in the Philippines. This last Thursday, the World Health Organization declared this outbreak a global health emergency. In the same week, many countries have confirmed their first cases or reported additional ones, including 10 here in Germany.

Amid the bad news, there are also some heartening ones. WWD reportsthat major fashion companies and Chinese tech giants like LVMH, Kering, Alibaba, and Tencent have collectively donated $2.88 billion for immediate use. The money will go toward medical supplies, government epidemic assistance, and Red Cross foundations in China.

Most of us can’t donate millions of dollars, but there are still things we can do to keep ourselves, family, and loved ones safe. Cough into your sleeves not your hands. Wash your hands regularly. Avoid touching your mouth, nose, and mouth. (Call out anti-Asian racism.) By limiting the virus movement, we can keep each other healthy as the virus is spreading closer to home.
