Sobriety, Strippers And Self-Discovery: Maria Rosenberg's Anthem of Rebirth
‘In the Pit’ unveils a compelling narrative about childhood trauma and addiction.
It begins in a grey Eastern European hood, with a suitcase full of forgotten toys, the grim remnants of a troubled past. But Maria Rosenberg, London’s rising indie sensation and most fierce performer turns this bleak scene into something hauntingly beautiful in her latest single, ‘In the Pit.’ Inspired by Maria’s own experiences with addiction and recovery, the song reflects on a past filled with substance abuse and unhealthy relationships, and the eventual rewriting of her story to one of stability and self-love.
‘I struggled with addiction for seven years, so I understand how tough the journey is. It numbs the pain and distorts how you see yourself and others. I've been through it all, strippers, drugs, booze. The temptation never goes away,’ shares Maria.
‘In the Pit’ is her badass reminder of how far she has come. ‘The song is about the struggle, the pain, but also the hope and love that pulled me through,’ she recounts. With dreamy guitars, soulful synths, and piercing vocals, the track pulls you in, whether you’re having a moment of introspection in the dark or dancing through the early hours with your own demons.
If owning your identity was an Olympic sport, Maria Rosenberg would take gold. Her unapologetic embrace of her past and present shines in the music video, set in the stark yet symbolic backdrop of her native hood, so contrastive with her glam presence. ‘It all began back in Poland, so returning there was definitely triggering. But revisiting my past showed me how much I've changed and grown,’ confesses Maria. ‘This song is a promise of new life and a shoutout to everyone facing the same battle I did.’
For all the sinners, broken dreamers, and fierce lovers out there, Maria Rosenberg has just crowned herself your new queen.
