Simple Ways to Save Money While Having Fun

The younger we start saving, the easier it is.

Saving money is an important habit that we should all get into. The younger we start saving, the easier it is both in terms of the changes we make to do it, and how much we need to put aside each month to have a comfortable future.

But saving money doesn't mean you can't have fun. In fact, you can save for a rainy day and still enjoy all of life’s pleasures.

Find Free Games

Free games used to be much smaller and a lot less exciting than the blockbuster titles released to consoles and computers. This was especially true during the 1990s and 2000s when Flash games took off, despite being fun to play, they were nowhere near as detailed. Early smartphone games weren't much better. But today, things are different.

Both Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone are free-to-play games that match paid-for titles in terms of quality. GTA Online will soon be available for free for some players, and many other popular games like CS:GO, League of Legends, World of Tanks, Dota 2, and Hearthstone won't cost you a penny. Even if you enjoy playing casino games, you can still find free versions. Many bookmakers offer free bet bonuses to new customers that include casino credit or free spins.

Get Free Cinema Tickets

Many banks now sell “packaged accounts”. These are usually bundled with products like insurance and breakdown cover. But several now also give you other perks like free cinema tickets or magazine subscriptions.

In the UK, banking with Lloyds and Halifax can bag you free vouchers and you can have your account fees waived if you meet certain criteria.

Other ways to get free tickets include using Meerkat Movies, getting special student tickets, or attending a free preview screening.

Save Money on Dining Out and Takeaways

You don’t need to give up on eating out, though cutting down how often you do it can certainly save you a good chunk of cash.

Many outlets offer discounts for eating at certain times of the day or quieter days of the week (like Monday to Thursday). Some also run loyalty schemes that allow you to earn free items or discounts off your bill after spending so much. An example of this is Nando’s which gives you a chili point for every £7 you spend. You can then redeem these for starters and mains.

Just remember that you shouldn’t visit the restaurant more frequently to qualify for the “free” rewards because this means you’ve spent more and not less.
