Sex Toy Sales Soar As Isolation Continues

Who said self-isolation couldn’t be sexy?

You know how boredom makes you hungry? Well, it turns out it makes you horny, too. As countries around the world have gone into lockdown to combat the outbreak of Covid-19, sex toy sales have begun to soar.

China and Italy are two of the nations to have been hit the hardest by the virus and with millions of citizens in quarantine, sales of sex toy brand Womanizer are up 50% and 60% in the countries respectively.

Speaking to T3 Magazine, Johanna Rief, head of sexual empowerment at Womanizer explained that, while they didn’t predict the boost in sales, “time is an essential factor when it comes to sexuality and self-pleasure. With the prospect of long periods at home either alone or with your partner, people are exploring new ways to make the best of the time available.”

But, this reported sex toy boom isn’t the first we’ve heard about self-isolating getting sexy. Adult sites Pornhub and CamSoda have both made their premium content free to access for those facing quarantine. And the pandemic has infiltrated the world of pornography in other ways, too- with content even being created inspired by the virus. A search for ‘coronavirus porn’ on Pornhub currently generates over 200 results.

Despite this surge in sexuality, there’s never been a more precarious time in the careers of sex workers, who have seen drastic declines in their income and financial stability since Coronavirus rates began to rise.

Sex worker-led collective SWARM has set up a hardship fund for UK workers which we can donate to support sex workers during this difficult time. We can also support the industry by paying for our porn and subscribing to performers’ OnlyFans accounts. And let’s be honest, you’re in the house alone, stocked up on sex toys, what are you waiting for?
