6 Beauty Products That’ll Keep Your Skin Glowing While You Work Out

Don’t sweat it!

POSTEDBYJESSICA CARROLL

We’ve all been told the reasons why we shouldn’t be wearing makeup to exercise. However, we know that feeling confident at the gym is the quickest way to get in the mood for smashing PBs and reaching goals. While we might not like to admit it, applying our favorite foundation or a swipe of mascara is often a dependable way to get an added hit of confidence pre-workout.

Exercise can do wonders for your skin, explains Lisa Franklin, a London based skincare expert. “It promotes good circulation; the increase in blood flow is beneficial for skin cells as blood carries essential nutrients and oxygen, which is critical for healthy function.”

“Exercise also makes your skin heat up and, in turn, your pores open to allow the skin to sweat.” This is a natural process and helps to cool you down, while also removing dirt from your pores. This helps to keep skin clear. However, when you cover up these pores with makeup, impurities can no longer be removed. This is when problems with your skin can occur and why it is important to choose the products you are using carefully.

If you do feel best hitting your exercise class wearing makeup (and you shouldn’t be made to feel guilty for doing so!), Lisa recommends using a base or primer that offers skincare benefits, whilst also providing a breathable canvas for your skin. “Look for bilberry seed oil, which is rich in antioxidants and polyphenols. This will help improve hydration and keep your skin looking radiant.”

It’s also important that you look after your skin, post-exercise. “Keep a micellar or micro-emulsion cleanser in your kit bag. These types of cleansers remove all signs of makeup, excess sebum, and cellular debris. I would also recommend a double or triple cleanse too for extra skin and pore cleaning post a heavy workout,” Lisa adds.

Whether you’re a cross country runner, or if strength training is more your thing, these products have been formulated with active people in mind. As well as allowing the skin to breathe and protecting it from unwanted breakouts, they promise to stay put well past your last rep.
