Hong-Kong based robotics enterprise Hanson Robotics has unveiled its latest invention after introducing robot Sophia in 2016: A humanoid robot called Grace.

Grace who has Asian features and collar-length brown hair is dressed in a blue nurse's uniform and equipped with sensors as well as a thermal camera. According to Hanson Robotics founder and CEO David Hanson, Grace is meant to assist doctors in their daily work by measuring the temperature and pulse of patients and thereby help in making a prognosis.

"Using AI and robotics in this context can help gather important data for healthcare providers to assess the wellbeing of the patient," Hanson told CNN.

More so, being specialized in senior care, Grace’s purpose is to keep patients company. The humanoid speaks English, Mandarin, and Cantonese and can help to conduct talk therapy.

Global sales of medical robots have seen an increase of 28% in the years between 2018 and 2019 according to the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). Throughout the corona pandemic the demand for contactless care has become ever more evident. Sales for robots like Grace are predicted to double within the next three years.

Hanson Robotics aims to begin mass production of its robots at the end of 2021.
