Punk Meets Street: Vivienne Westwood x Palace

He was a skater, she was a punk

What do you get when you mix some old-school punk and a bit of modern skating? A London fashion-hybrid made in heaven.

Together, Vivienne Westwood and Palace have teamed up for a capsule collection that combines punk and streetwear seamlessly. Set to launch on September 6, this collaboration is truly a declaration. It's a risky fusion of the subversive styles typical of these two cult brands in a collection that is anything but ordinary.

For Palace, a London-based label best known for its subcultural, skate-inspired menswear, this collaboration signifies a major milestone. It's the first time the label has presented a womenswear range featuring mini skirts and micro pants alongside other unique pieces influenced by Westwood's distinctive vision.

One of the most striking elements of the collection is the creative use of the two logos: Palace's triangular tri-ferge and Westwood's regal sphere come together in a new hybrid design on T-shirts, oversized jackets, and matching denim. And that's not all: this collection digs deep into Westwood's extensive archive and revives iconic prints and motifs.

One of the prints from Westwood's Spring/Summer 1992 collection features oversized Gore-Tex jackets, wide track pants, and silk midi skirts, creating a combination of a Victorian-inspired Westwood feel with a contemporary and modern Palace edge.

But no Westwood collaboration could be complete without the introduction of her signature corsets. In this case, these have been crafted from luxurious black and gold satin and embellished with a photograph of Palace co-founder Lev Tanju's dog Stuart. There is something whimsical and timeless about this surprisingly adorable choice.

A sense of nostalgia is evident throughout the collection. A Westwood trademark, such as the iconic and much-loved tartan pattern, can be found on both berets and undies. This collection certainly doesn't feel like two brands are trying to mimic each other's style, but rather that the archival work does it for them. It leaves us feeling that both Westwood and Palace understood and enhanced each other's legacy and values.

More than just a cool collaboration, we feel this is a true celebration of two of Britain's most cult brands. Combining Westwood's iconic punk heritage with Palace's modern street style, the result is a new underground culture where punks and skaters become one.
