Prada Is The Latest Fashion House To Ditch The Fur
Go where the fur isn’t.
As the world grows more environmentally-conscious, the fashion industry has been encouraged to make positive changes. The fur debate is by far one of the most heated arguments in fashion and one that prompts the most action. Prada has become the latest fashion house to follow in the footsteps of designer brands such as Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger, and Gucci to ditch the fur. Kudos, Prada, kudos.
Prada – alongside its mini-me label, Miu Miu – will no longer use animal fur, in support of the Fur Free Alliance – a campaign that supports the welfare of animals (see more, here). Items that are currently on sale or that have already been produced will not be affected by this change, but as of September, the Prada Group will ensure all their garments are fur-free. Their next Spring/Summer runway will debut the first furless collection.
It’s finally becoming more common for luxury brands to show support for the anti-fur campaign. What was once a symbol of wealth and class (particularly during the Hollywood era) is now seen as a throwback to the caveman times. In the modern world, a negative stigma is attached to any fur label. It’s safe to say that fur won’t be making any major comebacks soon.
