Pigeon Hair And Its Older Sister The Oil Slick

A new era of hair color.

POSTED BY SOPHIE CLARK

The newest way to add a pop of color to your hair is here and it's beautiful. Pigeon hair is gray with blended pops of pastels, creating an iridescent look similar to a pigeon. The rise in popularity of gray hair made this trend somewhat inevitable. This style feels like a natural progression—a way to add a pop of color to a timeless and elegant style.

The style first reached a big audience with Portland-based stylist Eddie, who goes by @eddiescissorhands_pdx on their socials. They specialize in colors and alternative styles so it's no doubt that they created such a stunning style.

This type of style isn't new. For a while now stylists have been adding color in a way that creates an iridescent look, it always looks magical and requires a lot of skill to create the effect.

Every so often, a new way to add a little color, without going all out and risking looking like a scene kid, will pop up, and one of these is so similar to pigeon hair that we have to take a look at it.

The iconic Oil Slick hair. It was exactly what it sounds like, a style that looked like an oil slick. The style used the full rainbow on dark hair to create the illusion of shiny, reflective hair without being too bright or too high maintenance. Because of the less intense use of color, the hair damage was minimized. This is the most popular style, but there are so many more color options to explore. You just have to find the right combo for you.
