Patou’s “Shopping Chronicles” Made Us Shop Til We Dropped

Supermarket Sweep. But Really Glamourous.

POSTED BY AIDAN PATRICK

Couture Week has come to a close, and there has been a LOT of coverage. I'm sure many people are sick to the back teeth of talking about it, and, in honesty, I am a bit too. However, on catching a glimpse of a short clip of Patou's show, it was instantly magnetizing. The preface to the show is "Fresh from Couture Week, the Real Shoppers of Patou have showed up to show off! They're ready to roll in their ready-to-wear, with a Caddie® in hand; shopping is a sport – and an art." A ready-to-wear fashion show based on shopping? Say no more.

Patou have the right level of exciting pieces in this collection, but the wearability isn't sacrificed at all. Maxi dresses, quilted blazers, knee- and thigh-high boots, puffer coats, trench coats are all characters featured in the "Shopping Chronicles." The main hues of the collections are neutrals, in greys, blacks, and whites. A lot of red is also featured alongside the occasional pink piece. An issue many people have with couture week is that sometimes the wearability of the clothes and authenticity of a brand is sacrificed in the name of the shock factor. Sometimes that's the point. But it would be totally possible to wear these Patou pieces if you wanted to go out shopping. Granted, it would be an extremely glamorous Sainsbury's run. However, it would be possible given that all the looks are tasteful yet practical. That works for us.

Look #1 encapsulates the collection perfectly. A blazing red ensemble featuring quilted material from the top of the branded Patou bucket hat to the bottom of the custom Caddie®. The mini-dress jacket adds both sophistication and practicality. This outfit could quite literally be worn to the supermarket. Next, look #8 stands out. An all-black look featuring a black, shiny puffer jacket, a crop top, a mini skirt, and thigh-high boots. Sleek and sophisticated with a little Y2K handbag to tie the whole look together. You have to have somewhere to keep your club card, right?

Look #26 is beautiful. This screams gentle, French elegance. The print, style, and color of the dress blend sophistication with a fun kick, all while lending itself to the practicality that this collection embodies. A final look that stands out for all the right reasons is #39, modeled by the stunning Dakota Schiffer. The simple yet effortlessly beautiful maxi dress continues the casually elegant and understated tone of the collection moving throughout. The practicality and wearability are both uncompromised, and the addition of a small bow and black boots ensure this.

Generally, this collection is an exciting addition to Couture Week with a fun concept and an elegant execution. The French elegance is apparent throughout and Guillhaume Henry successfully confirmed what I have been sure of since I was about 11: shopping is a very glamorous activity.
