Our Love and Hate Relationship With Makeup

It is the best of things, it is the worst of things.

POSTED BY JHON GARCIA

Both men and women have been wearing makeup for ages until it was consigned to one end of the gender spectrum. While it may make someone feel beautiful, others perceive it as a way for someone to hide a part of themselves that they are not comfortable with.

The beauty industry can shape how we feel about ourselves. There is a fine line between wanting to look great and feeling forced to meet certain standards.

As a man, I have come to love cosmetics. It makes me feel more confident while soothing my chronic eczema at the same time. Even though it’s not something expected of anyone it has helped many shape who they are. People who struggle with skin problems, like myself, seek refuge in skincare and makeup to live their best lives.

We come to love the daily routine of putting on makeup because we can express ourselves and cover up those imperfections.

Express Yourself

One of the reasons we love putting on makeup is because we can express ourselves. We can mix and match colors and feel more comfortable with ourselves when we cover up imperfections that impede us from living our best lives.

We also love wearing makeup because it offers skincare benefits such as anti-aging and brightening effects.

Let Your Natural Beauty Shine

Hate is a strong word, but people are not so keen on makeup because the beauty industry has unrealistic expectations about how people should look like. Some may say that is the main cause of people feeling insecure about themselves.

Men mistrust women when they wear heavy makeup because they can seem unrecognizable when they show themselves without it.

People preach to love ourselves as we are and not hide our true beauty. Let’s not forget it can be very time-consuming on a night out.

Makeup is a choice, not a requirement

We should not feel pressured to put on makeup and not feel ashamed when we put it on. Using makeup can boost our self-esteem, but it shouldn’t be the only thing that does. Think of makeup as a tool to express who you are. It helps you figure out your identity and is not just about looking a certain way. Let’s keep exploring how makeup and culture can go hand in hand. We should aim for a mix of creativity, self-respect, and questioning beauty norms.
