Our Definitive Oscar’s 2021 Best Dressed List
The red carpet is back! Here are the top 7 looks that graced it.
7. Alan Kim
Besides being the youngest person to make our list, he may be coolest 9-year-old to ever walk the red carpet. The Minari star looked adorable in his Thom Browne suit with shorts and knee high socks. He definitely fit in with the grown-ups but kept his childlike charm with one solid sock and one striped.
6. Regina King
Butterflies are all-the-rage at the moment, and Regina King emerged from her pandemic cocoon beautifully in this butterfly-esque Louis Vuitton gown, which fit the One Night In Miami director like a glove. We love the icy blue color, light-catching fabric, and crazy amounts of detail.
5. Riz Ahmed
It’s rare for a plain black suit to make it to our top 5, but this Prada look made it happen. The marriage of a black mock-neck with a cummerbund was such a unique and understated splash of cool, that he rose through the ranks.
4. Zendaya
Zendaya always kills it on the red carpet, and this time was no exception. This bright yellow Valentino Haute Couture gown and matching Jimmy Choos were said to be Cher-inspired. The juxtaposition of elegant jewels with super long, beachy, ‘60s inspired locks was unexpected and fresh.
3. Margot Robbie
There’s something to be said for easing your way back into real world fashion post-pandemic, and this look is our guiding light. Robbie combined classic movie star glam with effortlessness in this metallic Chanel fall ‘19 collection gown with a casual low ponytail, sophisticated new bangs, and invisible makeup. She perfectly pairs laidback ease with Hollywood royalty.
2. Marlee Matlin
Talk about movie star! There’s nothing to complain about with this glamorous, black and silver Vivienne Westwood gown. The long, split sleeves delivered major drama, and the hair! The makeup! We’re still not over it.
1. Andra Day
There’s only one word for this whole look: perfection. She looks exactly how a Best Actress nominee should look. She glows in this Vera Wang gown in a shade of gold to match Oscar, himself, and hair, makeup, and Tiffany & Co. jewels that are cherries on top. The United States Vs. Billie Holiday star says she chose this dress to honor the legendary titular singer she played in the biopic. And, what better way to honor someone than by looking like a true movie star and snagging Best Dressed bragging rights.
