Nosferatu Fashion: Welcome Back Victorian Gothic

The recent remake of German Horror film, Nosferatu has brought Victorian gothic fashion back into the spotlight. It has done this with its incredible costumes and popular actors.
Nosferatu, which was originally a silent film, has been given a new life by director Robbert Eggers and his star studded cast. The movie follows a young couple, Ellen and Thomas and their entanglement with ancient vampire Count Orlock.
Though for many the cast isn't what stood out, it was the carefully curated collection of costumes within, especially those of Lily-Rose Depp’s character Ellen.

The actress, Lily-Rose Depp has been a style icon since her debut in the movie Tusk. Though she is more popularly known for her work with luxury fashion brand Chanel. As well as appearances in Vogue, Glamour and Elle.
Her role as a fashion icon within her acting career didn’t take off until the 2023 HBO series, The Idol. Within which she plays a tortured new popstar, with an incredible wardrobe. We see her wear a display of glamorous more modern outfits.
Her more recent work in Nosferatu highlights a new fashion era, the Victorian Era. Lily-Rose Depp's character, Ellen, wears an array of gorgeous vintage gowns and night dresses concocted by lead costume designer Lizzie Agnew. Though her most iconic outfit is her funeral outfit, as it reflects the combination of Victorian and Gothic seamlessly.
The resurgence of Victorian fashion.
Victorian fashion has been on the rise since the popularity of Netflix period drama Bridgerton, though unlike the light airy pastels of Bridgerton. Nosferatu embraces the dark and gloomy gothic staples of Victorian fashion. The entire cast of Nosferatu have embraced the Victorian fashion within the movie and continued to display it throughout the press tour.

Nosferatu beautifully captures these elements of Victorian gothic fashion within. The popularity of this movie almost guarantees a microtrend or trend of some kind recreating these outfits, or creating other Victorian-inspired outfits which fans would have liked seeing.
