“One Size Doesn’t Fit At All”: Introducing Nike X WNBA Uniform Apparel
Nike is celebrating 25 years of WNBA with a uniform collection tested by first-class athletes.
After four years of partnership with the Women's National Basketball Association, Nike creates uniform apparel for the organization's 25th birthday.
The collection includes a range of jerseys specially designed for each of the 12 teams in the league with its own meaning behind every single silhouette.
Nike has partnered with WNBA since 2018 and their mission was clear right from the start – to make outstanding basketball apparel that would be more personalized and storytelling. According to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, the league uniforms are ‘an important representation’ and also ‘a point of pride for fans’, hence focusing on tiny details regarding product performance benefits were in place.
This season, every team will be delivered with three different designs - the WNBA Nike Heroine Edition, the WNBA Nike Explorer Edition and the WNBA Nike Rebel Edition. These jersey selections will reflect clubs’ roots and the connection to fans - bringing stories from their cities and communities, showing diversity in their very own personal styles.
“When our team met with our athletes, their feedback was very clear,” says Tania Flynn, Nike VP of Women’s Apparel Design.
“They wanted a uniform that fits them, not one they have to fit into. They wanted a connection to their team and fans but also wanted to express their personal style. And they wanted us to tell their story. The new uniforms obsess all of those details for the world’s best players, technically and creatively.” said the Vice president.
Following the feedback, Nike also focused on the fit itself, aiming to create a better-fitting uniform that would suit the needs of each player. According to Nike, the new WNBA Nike jerseys feature an entirely re-engineered chassis and new proportions suitable for different body ranges, as well as Nike DRI-FIT ADV technology — an engineered knit material that helps enable more freedom of movement and comfort.
The WNBA Nike Rebel Edition Uniforms are available exclusively to Nike Members on April 8 on nike.com and in the Nike App. The WNBA Nike Explorer Edition and the WNBA Team 13 collection will be available beginning April 14.
You can have a look at the whole collection on WNBA official website.
